Junior Primary (Grade 0 to 3)

Learning Areas
In Grade 0 to 3 we focus on the three learning areas ie. literacy, numeracy and life skills. Zulu is part of the literacy component and is taught at a fairly basic level in Grade 0 and 1 and at a slightly more advanced level in Grade 2 and 3. Afrikaans is introduced in Grade 1. Zulu and Afrikaans are taught using simple oral vocabularly in the form of rhymes, songs, poems and stories.

We work according to themes and encourage children to bring items of interest, books etc. that relate to the specific themes. We also plan our outing programme accordingly.

Pridwin employs specialist teachers for Music, Computers and Physical Education.

Nurturing
The Junior Primary (JP) is geographically separate from the rest of the school. This enables younger boys to take their first steps in formal education with confidence.

Potential
Here, carefully selected educators offer a warm and nurturing environment and positive learning experiences. Each boy is challenged and encouraged to reach his full potential through active participation.

Big Brother Programme
Pridwin has a great programme whereby the Grade 7's take on the role of 'Big Brothers' to the Grade 0's. They interact on a weekly basis in order to create a bond between these two age groups of boys. This programme gives the Grade 0's the opportunity to have older role models as they assimilate into their new "big" school.

Chapel
A Chapel service is held each Friday morning in the auditorium. In Chapel we honour the Christian tradition of our school but appropriate opportunities will be found to honour the traditions of other faith communities in our school with a view to encouraging mutual understanding and tolerance. In Chapel the boys are also recognised for their academic and sporting achievements for the week. Boys who are celebrating their birthdays in the forthcoming week are also acknowledged. Parents are welcome to attend chapel.

Assembly
A short, informal assembly is held at 08h00 on a Monday morning in the Reading Room for the the Grade 0, 1 and 2 boys. The boys are recognised for their efforts and are awarded by the Head of the JP.

Discipline
We take a strong stand against bullying and follow an anti-bullying policy which incorporates dealing with both the bully and the victim, providing support and counseling for both. We use positive reinforcement through our class merit systems.

Support Team
We have a team of Speech and Language therapists, Remedial therapists, an Occupational therapist, as well as an Educational Psychologist who operate on the school premises. Should the need arise, they are available to do the necessary assessments and therapy. Therapy fees are charged privately and are not included in the school fees.
